Beilstein Institut / IZNF-Seminar: Dr. Barbara Hissa, Tips on Manuscript Preparation and Navigating Diamond Open Access

You plan your experiments, run the assays, check for reproducibility, collect and analyze the data, and prepare the figures for a manuscript. To that point, how do you best convey your results and get them published in a reputable journal? Dr. Barbara Hissa will give some hints and tips on how to prepare your manuscript and improve your scientific writing skills.

Next, she will also discuss the evolving publishing model: Diamond Open Access. What exactly is it, and how can it be navigated?

The diamond-open-access publication model is an equitable and well-established route for researchers to publish open access with no fees for their universities and without detracting resources from their research funding. Dr. Hissa will present the diamond open access Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology (BJNANO) to the FAU community. The BJNANO is a scholar-led nonprofit journal that is fully funded by the Beilstein-Institut, a charitable foundation based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Short bio: Dr. Barbara Hissa graduated in Physics and obtained her Master's and PhD degrees in Cell Biology, from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil. Barbara also did a postdoc in biophysics at the University of Chicago. After that, she moved to Germany to work as Deputy Lab Head in the Surgical Department of the Universitätsklinikum Mannheim investigating metastasis mechanisms. She then transitioned to the Beilstein-Institut as Managing Editor the for the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. Her current interests include: research integrity, research inclusion and diversity, fair research assessment, diamond open access model, nanotechnology, nanoscience, science communication.
