Join us for a conversation with Richard Slotkin and Heike Paul on the the myths that have shaped American identity, their use in contemporary politics, and the current cultural and political divides in the United States. This event is part of the workshop The Myths That Made America: Teaching American StudiesThe Myths That Made America: Teaching American Studies<https://www.angam.phil.fau.de/2024/09/12/the-myths-that-made-america-teaching-american-studies-10-10-24/> (October 9-10), organized by the Chair of American Studies: Culture and Literature, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Heike Paul’s book The Myths That Made America.

The conversation will be moderated by Katharina Gerund. A reception will follow the event.

Richard Slotkin is the Olin Professor of English and American Studies, Emeritus, at Wesleyan University, and author of the award-winning trilogy on the Myth of the Frontier. His latest book, A Great Disorder: National Myth and the Battle for America, was published this year by Harvard University Press.
